Description: Bullying happens beyond the playground. It continues through post-secondary, in the workplace, online, and definitely in the fitness community. We talk sh*t about others at the gym. “He’s probably on roids.” We give backhanded compliments. “She’s jacked, but I’d never want to look like that.” We ask offensive questions. “You’re going to eat THAT?” We all know it gets worse online. With endless gym selfies, progress pics and workout videos in our hands, it’s easy to forget that sharing our opinions can actually be BULLYING - even if it’s about a stranger on the screen. How many of these look & sound familiar? “He’s not even that big!” “She has no curves…” “That’s not that heavy.” “Bad form, what a joke.” “She needs to eat something.” “What a stupid exercise.” “Too skinny for me.” We can NEVER know someone’s personal journey from appearances alone. We all have our own unique goals, and we all had to start somewhere - and sometimes, that means restarting. Injuries, illnesses, tragic events, mental health issues, eating disorders, surgeries, and even just having a bad day can all impact physical fitness. Pink Shirt Day or not, just be nice. It’s easy.
